Vocabulary- Working out the meaning

We are learning different ways to work out the meaning of words that we don’t know the meaning to. We are learning to use context clues to work out the meaning of words. This means we will: *Focus on the parts of speech ( word class/language feature) the word would be. *Focus on finding words that would make sense and are grammatically correct. Today we are using the theme of Halloween to unpack this learning intention. What are word classes? Our first task is to brainstorm what adjectives, verbs, nouns and adverbs we associate with Halloween. What words can you think of? Maybe this video clip will help your thinking. Remember good readers are always trying to make connections with what they know.
